Coronavirus infections are rising in many South American countries, but the worst situation in Brazil.
South America, and Brazil, in particular, has become the new epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic. This was stated by the Director of the WHO program for health emergencies Michael Ryan reports on Friday, May 22, Estadao.
“South America has become the new epicenter of the disease. We see that the number of infections is growing in many South American countries. Of course, the situation in many of them is of concern, but, of course, Brazil is the most affected at the moment,” Ryan said.
Ryan noted that Brazil is approaching 300 thousand infections, most of which are in Sao Paulo.
Coronavirus has been reported to accelerate dramatically in Latin America. Over the month, the incidence there has grown seven times, and mortality – 8.5 times.
Earlier, WHO announced the timing of the second wave of COVID-19 in Europe. The peak incidence will coincide with other seasonal infections.
