The U.S. company Apple has been hatching plans to release so-called “smart” tags for quite some time. But it seems that there is a company that can do it sooner. We are talking about its “arch-rival”, the Korean Samsung. Preparations for the release of the Galaxy SmartTag smart tags are in full swing! The accessory has just recently passed official certification in Taiwan, and the release date has already been determined.
The device will be presented on January 14 at an event dedicated to other new products – Galaxy S21 smartphones and Galaxy Buds Pro headphones. In addition, we already know some details about the SmartTag. So, they will use a Bluetooth connection. The “beacon” will not need an Internet connection to work. It will transmit its location with GPS coordinates, using connected to the network and nearby gadgets.
The novelty will have the shape of a small plastic rhombus. Its rounded corners will allow handling it with great comfort. One of them will have a hole for a ring or strap. The tag will be powered by a 3V lithium battery. The smart tags will most likely be searched using the SmartThings app, already used to control a smart home. It is expected that the key fobs will be offered to users at a price of no more than 15-20 euros per unit.
